THE PRACTICE

Dr. John M. Wray began his private practice in 1977 as an associate of Peter N. Varzos, DPM. He took over the practice in 1983 at the time of Dr. Varzos’s retirement from private practice. The name Drs. Varzos, Wray, and Associates continued until January 2000 when the practice incorporated as Podiatry Center, SC. Dr. Alison Young joined the Chicago practice in 2019. Upon Dr. Wray's retirement in January 2023, the practice is now run by Dr. Young.

Our Chicago Loop office is conveniently located at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Washington Street, across Washington Street from the Chicago Cultural Center and across Michigan Avenue from Millennium Park. We can provide validation for the Grant Park North parking garage, which is the closest parking option. The office is also served by several CTA bus line including routes 3, 4, 20, 60, 124,151, and 157.  Several of these lines provide service between the office and Ogilvie and Union Train Stations. We are also easily accessible via CTA train - the nearest station is at Washington and Wabash.

Dr. Wray is a native of Greenville, Maine and attended undergraduate school at the University of Southern Maine Portland – Gorham. He is a 1971 graduate of the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine and did a two year surgical residency at Sacred Heart Hospital in Chicago. Following his residency, he joined the faculty at Scholl College where he taught surgery for 18 years, attaining the academic rank of Clinical Professor in Podiatric Surgery. Dr. Wray has been board-certified in podiatric surgery for 30 years by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is a fellow of the American Society of Podiatric Surgery.

 

Dr. Wray is a member and past president of the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association and a member and a past delegate to House of Delegates of the American Podiatric Medical Association. He was previously a member of the Illinois Podiatric Medical Licensing Board from January 2012 through January 2018 and has been Chairman of the By-Laws Committee of the American Podiatric Medical Association since August of 2012.

Dr. Wray has surgical privileges at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, AMITA St. Joseph Hospital, and Oak Brook Surgical Centre.

Alison Young, DPM
ALISON YOUNG, DPM

 

A native of Arkansas and Missouri, Dr. Young received a BA in American Studies from Carleton College in Minnesota. She earned her MA from the University of Mississippi and her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University in North Chicago, IL. Prior to pursuing a career in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, she worked for several years in the healthcare IT industry.

Following her graduation from the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in 2016, Dr. Young completed a three-year surgical residency at AMITA Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center in Chicago. During her residency, she treated a wide variety of foot and ankle conditions with a special interest in sports injuries and diabetic foot infections.

Dr. Young is an Associate of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Medicine. She is also a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, Illinois Podiatric Medical Association, and American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine. She is a lifelong runner and previously competed at the collegiate level. She now lives in Wicker Park with her husband and two children.

MONICA VITALIS

 

Monica is from Deva, Romania, where she began her professional career as a registered nurse. She began working in our Downers Grove office in September 2000 as a clinical assistant. She assumed the role of business manager in February 2003 working in both the Chicago and Downers Grove offices. Following the closure of the Downers Grove office upon Dr. Wray's retirement, Monica has continued on as the business manager for Dr. Young in the Chicago office. Monica is fluent in Hungarian and Romanian.

JOY RAMOS

 

Joy joined our Chicago office in March 2022 as clinical assistant and receptionist. Joy has worked in several different specialties as a medical assistant.
